LITURGY

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully
~ Romans 12:6-8

Stations Of The Cross

We are well blessed with a wide range of active groups within our parish and by the number of parishioners who are able to share their God-given gifts. Such sharing may be through participation in one or more of these groups or by contributing to one of the many forms of Lay Ministry. Many members of our parish are involved with organisations, both religious and secular, which try to help people who are in need, locally, nationally and internationally. These range from supporting local food banks to schemes which aim to provide ways in which people in developing countries can support themselves and their families without the need for aid.

Altar Servers

Becoming an altar server is an ideal way in which our young people can serve our church community and develop a greater understanding of, and respect for, the Mass and other services. Boys and girls who have made their First Communion are warmly invited to consider volunteering to assist Father Keiron in this service. If any young person would like to train as an altar server please contact Father Keiron.

Bidding Prayer Writers

The current group consists of eight writers who prepare the prayers of the faithful (bidding prayers) for Sunday and other feast days. The parish provides information to help writers format their prayers. Other ideas for expressing the needs and concerns of the parish are sourced from a variety of Catholic books and websites. The writers' group meets annually to share ideas and solve problems. We welcome new volunteers. Contact: Barbara Kelly Email: barpolo@aol.com

Choir: (St Aidan’s)

The choir at St Aidan’s church sings at the 11.00am mass. New members are always very welcome. Please contact Sandra Wilkinson (tel 01274 427262)

Church Care

St Walburga’s: A faithful group of parishioners have cleaned the church for many years; more helpers, who are able to spare an hour or two during the week, are always needed. Please see Fr Keiron to volunteer.
St Aidan’s: Anyone who would be prepared to assist with occasional cleaning at St Aidan’s church please contact Joan Kaina.

Eucharistic Ministers

Thanks to our Eucharistic Ministers we are able to distribute Holy Communion under both kinds at Sunday and weekday Masses. Eucharistic Ministers also take Holy Communion to sick or housebound parishioners. Eucharistic Ministers are commissioned annually at the parish Mass on the feast of Corpus Christi; to volunteer or to request Holy Communion at home for yourself or another, please contact Fr Keiron (tel 01274 583708)

Flower Arranging

St Walburga’s: Volunteers to help with flower arranging are always welcome, no experience necessary, just a good eye for floral arrangement. The flowers are changed or watered and tidied weekly. To join our flexible rota contact Sue Masely (01274 772543)
St Aidan’s: If you would like to help with flower arranging at St Aidan’s please contact Maureen Caine (tel 01274 588858)

NB Everyone on the rota has the opportunity to help at Christmas and Easter.

Liturgy Group

Members of the Liturgy Group take a particular interest in the liturgical formation of the parish. The group meets at 7.45 on alternate Tuesday evenings to examine the readings of the Sunday Mass and to choose suitable hymns. Special care is taken to prepare the liturgies for the great feasts of Easter and Christmas. The Group has close contact with the Music Group which plays at the 9:15am Mass at St Walburga’s. We always welcome new members.
For more information please contact Nick Connor (01274 585773).

Music Group

The Music Group plays at the 9.15am Mass every Sunday and on other special occasions. New instrumentalists and cantors (who help sing the psalms) are always welcome. Please contact any of the musicians or phone Ann Davis (07583 229635).

Readers

Proclaiming the Word, God’s message to his people, is an important ministry, and a service to the liturgy, the church and the community. We welcome new readers, especially those who have had some formal training or experience. Training will, however, be provided for novices. New readers would be particularly welcome at the 5.45pm Vigil Mass and the 11am Mass.

Welcome Ministers

Jesus welcomes everyone with love. In this Ministry, we too are given an opportunity to reach out to strangers and friends with a warm greeting at the Sunday vigil and Sunday morning Masses.
